The Jadeveon Clowney pot is boiling, and it’s going to overflow on Sunday in a revenge matchup for which the former No. 1 overall selection has likely been salivating. Clowney was traded from the Texans to the Seattle Seahawks before the start of the 2019 season.
In 2020, Clowney signed with the Titans as a free agent just before the Week 1 game versus the Denver Broncos and he’s had a slow start in Nashville.
Clowney has zero sacks through four games, and it’s been a battle for him to return to game shape. He’ll get a chance to prove his worth as he lines up across from Pro Football Focus’ No. 1 ranked, pass-blocking offensive tackle, Laremy Tunsil (89.8).
Tunsil is a name you should remember, as the Titans were considered the favorite to land him in the 2016 NFL Draft. Hours before his name would be called, a photo of Tunsil in a gas mask smoking you-know-what leaked. He slid down draft boards (the Titans traded back anyway) until he was drafted No. 13 overall by the Miami Dolphins.
From there, Tunsil was shipped to the Houston Texans in a package that included a plethora of draft picks. He struggled with penalties for much of his early career but has since cleaned it up. Now, he’s playing the best football we’ve seen from him thus far, and he hasn’t a more important matchup in front of him than Clowney.
Pride is at stake here, and Clowney should get to quarterback Deshaun Watson at least once on Sunday.
