The Guam Department of Revenue and Taxation.

Governor’s Press Secretary Krystal Paco-San Agustin confirmed $23.7 million in tax refunds are in the mail.

There are 9,805 checks that were sent out, covering error-free tax returns filed on or before April 17, she said.

The $23.7 million payment marks the largest amount released in 2020. The first batch of checks in January was for $819,987 and covered up to mid-July 2019, and refunds have been processed two to four times per month since.

Payments have been piecemeal since the start of the year, usually between $450,000 and $5 million, although two payments in May and September were for $8.4 and $8.5 million, respectively.

Because of the pandemic, the deadline to file taxes was moved back, from Aprll 15 to July 15. Adelup didn’t specify why refunds filed through the extended deadline weren’t processed and mailed.
