When Ole Miss took the field Saturday in preparation for its game with South Carolina, the Rebels carried the newly adopted Mississippi state flag.
Junior offensive lineman Ben Brown, a native of Vicksburg, carried the flag over his right shoulder just before the game.
Even coach Lane Kiffin showed his support for the flag as he donned a mask that had the new flag’s design.
In May, Ole Miss tight end Kenny Yeboah spoke out against the old flag design.
The junior wrote on Twitter, “It’s crazy that as an African American student-athlete, I play for a team in a state that STILL has the Confederate flag incorporated into their flag….STILL in 2020!!!” Yeboah said in his tweet.
Coming off a bye last week, it was the first time that Ole Miss was playing since voters approved the new magnolia-centric flag design.
On the new flag, 20 stars encircle a magnolia blossom on a dark blue background with red and yellow bars on the ends.
