BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – In just over two weeks, the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers men’s basketball team will be kicking off a new college basketball season.
After the Coronavirus pandemic abruptly put an end to the Tops’ 2019-2020 campaign, seniors Taveion Hollingsworth and Josh Anderson say the team is even more motivated to finish the job they were unable to complete last season.
Contrary to last year, though, this current Hilltoppers’ squad is set to be one of the deepest and most talented in quite some time.
Head coach Rick Stansbury welcomes in a slew of new faces, as well as a couple of familiar ones in star center Charles Bassey and guard Kenny Cooper.
Bassey, who missed the majority of last season with a serious leg injury, and Cooper, a transfer from Lipscomb University who was surprisingly ruled ineligible by the NCAA, are itching to get back on the court and help their team in the new regular season.
The Tops enter this uncharted 2020-2021 campaign with lofty expectations, as they have once again been selected as the preseason favorite to win the Conference USA.
However, Stansbury and his squad aren’t too concerned with that and are looking forward to letting their play do the talking this year.
