Goodbye, Gateway Motel. Hello, Caribou Coffee

The Gateway Motel is torn down Friday, Nov. 13, 2020, in St. Cloud.

ST. CLOUD — The Gateway Motel is no more.

The 35-unit motel at 310 Lincoln Ave. SE was undergoing demolition Friday. The site will become home to a three-tenant commercial building. One tenant already confirmed is Caribou Coffee, complete with drive-thru.

The City of St. Cloud worked with developer Midland Atlantic Properties for over a year to coordinate the property’s redevelopment. The parcel of land has been named a tax increment financing (TIF) district. This means increased property tax revenue from the site can be used to pay for costs of redevelopment for 25 years.

The Gateway Motel is torn down Friday, Nov. 13, 2020, in St. Cloud.

The project is hoped to positively impact St. Cloud’s East Side.

Gateway Motel was built in 1965.
